Our veterinarians – Drs. Mark W. Hamrick and Charles F. McDonell – provide over three decades of combined experience, offering prompt appointments, on-site visits, surgery and more.

Mark W. Hamrick, DVM
Dr. Hamrick grew up in Davie County on a small beef cattle farm and was involved with
4-H and FFA activities. He graduated with honors from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science.


He graduated in the 5th class to finish at the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. After practicing in a mixed animal practice as an associate for 3 years, Dr. Hamrick started Lexington Large Animal Medicine & Surgery.


His practice interests include Bovine medicine and surgery, Equine Internal Medicine, Reproduction, small ruminant medicine and surgery and camelid medicine.



Dr. Mark's hobbies include running (marathons) and activities with his children. Dr. Hamrick is a member of the AVMA, NCVMA, American Association of Equine Practitioners, American Association of Sheep and Goat Practitioners, the American Association of Bovine Practitioners and the Lexington Kiwanis Club. Dr. Hamrick also serves on the Davidson County Board of Health as the board veterinarian.


Charles F. McDonell, DVM
Dr. McDonell grew up in Hickory, NC and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from North Carolina State University. He attended the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 1999.


Dr. McDonell's practice interests include Equine Internal Medicine and Reproduction, Dentistry and Lameness. He is a member of the AVMA, NCVMA, American Association of Equine Practitioners and the Lexington Kiwanis Club.
